If you want a mix of apes, culture and primates, this package is for you. It takes you to Mgahinga National Park for Gorilla trekking, golden monkey tracking and the Batwa cultural trail experience.
Day 1: Kampala – Drive to Mgahinga
Early in the morning you will check out to start the drive to Mgahinga National Park. This protected area is located in the western part of Uganda in Kisoro district. The journey requires about 9-10 hours. You arrive at the lodge late in the evening.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga
Have the early morning breakfast. After drive to the starting point where you will be briefed by the park officials about how to behave in the jungles.
You are divided into groups of 8 people. Each gorilla family is allowed to be visited by one group of eight people per day. After briefing, you head to the Jungle following the permanently established routes in search of these apes.
When you locate these apes in the Jungles you are allowed to stay in their presence for only one hour while seeing them playing, feeding, laughing plus taking photos and videos of them. After the one hour session you return to the Park offices.
Day 3: Golden monkey tracking
On this day you visit the golden monkeys in the Jungles. These primates are mostly found in the mountainous bamboo forested areas. Therefore you have to be physically fit. It starts with a briefing at the park offices.
After you start the journey to the jungle and search for these animals. When you locate them, a period of one hour is allowed for you to see them as they carry out various activities. After you return to the lodge.
Day 4: Batwa trail experience
This day exposes you the cultural norms of the Batwa people. These people were hunters and gatherers. In the past, they used forests as their shelter. Several programs were arranged by different organizations to transform these people into normal human beings. The reaction was positive, these people transformed and are now living normal life in their various communities. A Batwa trail experience was introduced to source funds which can support communities of these people.
While on this excursion you visit different villages, experience their local life, enjoy their local dances and participate in different local activities like hunting, basket weaving and more. You also visit the Garama cave. A local guide is available to take you around as he or she feeds you with different information.
Day 5: Mgahinga – Drive to Entebbe airport
Early in the morning you will start the drive from Mgahinga National park back to Kampala or Entebbe airport. End of Safari.
